This Midtown Sacramento home started with a yard of bare dirt and rubble. Out front, modern planter walls give the house a crisp edge and a planted entry, and a paver driveway and side yard connect the street to the garden.

In back, a paver patio with a fire table and dining area creates a true outdoor room, framed by layered planting that softens the fences and gives the space privacy.
