Matthew Vasquez
Matthew Vasquez is a passionate landscape designer and the proud owner of Palmatum Landscape Design. With a degree in Landscape Architecture from UC Davis and over a decade of experience in the industry, Matthew has cultivated a reputation for solving landscape challenges in creative and beautiful ways. Since 2013, he has contributed his expertise to projects in both Seattle, Washington, and the greater Sacramento and Roseville California region, giving him a uniquely diverse perspective on landscape design.
Matthew's love for nature and the outdoors fuels his work. Whether hiking, exploring nurseries, or crafting designs that bring out the best in outdoor spaces, he is dedicated to helping people transform their landscapes into places of beauty and enjoyment. He believes that a well-designed outdoor space can enrich lives, providing both functionality and aesthetic pleasure.
Through Palmatum Landscape Design, Matthew combines his deep knowledge of the landscape industry with his passion for helping clients create outdoor environments they truly love. His goal is to ensure that every client can enjoy their outdoor space to its fullest potential.
Matthew's work has also been featured on national television. He served as the landscape designer for two backyard transformations on HGTV's Crashers, hosted by Jonathan Knight. "Going Hard in the Yard" (Season 1, Episode 4, aired June 29, 2026) turned a Roseville backyard into a wellness and entertaining retreat with a modern shade structure, cedar sauna, outdoor kitchen, and family-friendly synthetic lawn. "Don't Rain on My Reno" (Season 1, Episode 7, aired July 20, 2026) transformed a crumbling Citrus Heights backyard into a safe, welcoming gathering space for a young, growing family. The design pairs a stone-clad grilling island and pizza oven with an outdoor dining area. It adds a sleek fire table, new redwood entry steps, Corten steel raised planters and laser-cut screens, and a dedicated children's play garden, all softened by Japanese maples and layered plantings. Both episodes are now streaming on HBO Max.
‘Palmatum’
The word ‘Palmatum’ comes from the Latin name of my favorite tree, the ‘Acer palmatum’, or Japanese Maple as it is commonly known. This wonderful tree has many different colors and forms and is a wonderful piece of living sculpture. No two are the same and neither are the projects I design for my clients. Each design is as unique as the people who will get to experience it every day.
