Small Space, Big Impact

A small Sacramento courtyard with a big presence

This Sacramento courtyard became the most used room of the house. We started with how the family wanted to live in it: a dining table under a pergola, a lounge for evenings, and enough privacy to forget the neighbors are there.

Laser-cut metal screens provide that privacy and become art at night, washed with warm light from below. A bluestone patio, a stacked stone seat wall with built-in lights, and Japanese maples soften the hard edges and bring the space down to a comfortable, human scale.

We design courtyards and compact gardens throughout central Sacramento. See more of our work in Land Park.
